These are fast-moving, entertaining stories of a simpler age and in my opinion, much more interesting to women than to men. Our heroine, Cherry Ames, like many written during this period and earlier, seems almost too good to be true and her life too serendipitous to be real - but it is fiction, and Helen Wells keeps it from going overboard into treacle or 'preachy-ness'. As a pastor's wife, I appreciate a good, clean story without sex or violence and where most of the characters have 'old-fashioned' moral values (which, by the way, never go out of style). Good, light entertainment - I could buzz through one of these in a couple of hours, and be ready to read the next one.
